Pichi Pichi

Pichi-Pichi is a dessert made from grated cassava mixed with some water, sugar, pandan flavor and lye water. One of Filipinos' favorite snack or meryenda. It is steamed then topped with fresh grated coconut or sweetened coconut flakes |
Preparing Pichi-Pichi is very easy. Just combine all the ingredients together. How simple is that?
Have your individual tin molds ready. Fill with mixture about 3/4 full and steam for 35-40 minutes or until the water on top has dried out. Remove the Pichi-Pichi from mold using a knife with a round tip brushed with butter (to avoid sticking). |
If you are wondering where to get the molds, I got mine at SM Supermarket baking isle in the Philippines a long time ago. You can probably find them at any baking store in your area as well. Lazada online store definitely carries them too. Here in the US, it can be purchased via Amazon.com. Didn't see them on Michael's nor Target or Walmart so online should be the option.

I know you have questions about Lye Water. Where to get it and what to substitute it for. You can find lye water in any baking or condiment isle of an Asian store. If it is not available in your area, you can purchase them online. Link is added on the right or below of this text.
But what is Lye water? Lye water (sometimes called ‘Lime Water’) is a strong (caustic) liquid that is safe to use in very small amounts in cooking usually added as part of the recipe in small amounts (spoonfuls) but can be dangerous if lye water is swallowed undiluted straight from the bottle. That's why it is probably banned in some countries. |

Now, to substitute, Mely's Kitchen will provide you some information. FYI, I haven't tried this substitute suggestion because lye water is easily accessible for me. If you try and effective, please let me know. :)
