Try this simple and super easy to make Caramel Bars recipe. They are soft, moist, chewy, gooey and loaded with nuts. This rich cake bars will be a big hit with family and friends. They are actually addicting so you need to watch how many bars you are eating. :)
I said super easy to make. Yes, easy because you will only need to combine the dry ingredients then the wet ingredients, stir them together then stir-in the nuts and voila they are ready to be baked!
For the nuts, I suggest to use cashew nuts but if not available, you can use peanuts as well.

caramel bars recipe

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup powdered milk, I used Nido
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 can, 14 oz condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup or more crushed peanuts or cashew nuts

Video

Procedure:
  • Preheat oven to 325 F and line a 13 x 9 pan with parchment paper lightly greased with butter.
  • In  large mixing bowl, prepare the dry ingredients by sifting together flour, powdered milk, sugar, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the wet ingredients starting from melted butter, vanilla, eggs and condensed milk. Whisk until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir with a spatula until fully incorporated. Do not over mix.  Stir-in half of the nuts.
  • Transfer the batter into the prepared pan.  Use a wet spatula to spread the batter evenly.  (Wet spatula avoids sticking into the batter).
  • Top with the rest of the nuts. I use cashew nuts on this recipe.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Sides of the caramel will start to turn golden brown in color. Do not over bake.  (Always check before the set time as oven temperature varies.) Remove from oven and cool completely before slicing.
  • Cut into bars and enjoy.

You need powdered milk to make this and I don't know what to substitute it with. It is one of the main ingredients and the powdered milk gives a nice milky taste to the caramel bar.

These are the best caramel bars I’ve ever tasted ! I just made them. Such a easy recipe and thanks for the video! These are way better than the ones they sell at red ribbon.

I don’t think it’s caramel bar...it’s too much sugars. i’m dissapointed :(

We call this Caramel Bars in the Philippines and it is because of the added powdered milk and condensed milk that gives the slightly crunchy caramel on top after baking. This is not actually overly sweet as mentioned by my followers from facebook page. Many have already tried this.

Can we use salted butter instead?

I usually don't recommend salted butter due to high salt content. Yes you can try but just omit the salt in the recipe.

Is it okay to double the recipe in the 9x13 inch pan so that it's thicker?

I am not sure. I haven't tried it. Please know that not all recipes can be doubled. Not sure either if you'll have extra batter as may need space on top for rising. Also, the timing will be different since you will be baking thicker bars.
