By the way, this Puto cake is a No-Bake recipe! Whaaat? Yes, and it's great news for those who doesn't own an oven. I know some of my followers from the Philippines doesn't have one. The steamer works perfect for this recipe. So easy! Oh, and the cheese on top and salted egg are the bomb! I suggest not to omit the salted egg. It's just really a great combination with this cake but if you are not a fan go ahead and just load the top with grated cheese.
Making this is very simple but of course sponge cake always require a meringue. So, just beat the egg whites, cream of tartar ( you can sub with lemon juice or white vinegar if not available) and sugar. Set aside. Sift together the dry ingredients then add water. Stir until smooth then fold-in the meringue. Transfer to a round pan with parchment, top with cheese and salted egg. Steam for 18-20 minutes.
