​This Chinese-style Honey Chicken Wings recipe is a winner! The caramelized sauce is so flavorful and easy to make. Delicious if eaten with hot steamed rice as a side.

honey chicken wings recipe

Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, cleaned and pat try with paper towels
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • thumb size ginger, strips
  • 1 tsp pepper flakes
  • salt and ground black pepper, to taste

Procedure:
  • ​In a non-stick wok or large pan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Saute' ginger and garlic until aromatic. 
  • Add chili flakes and chicken wings.
  • Fry for about 5-7 minutes. Keep turning the wings.
  • Add the soy sauce and sesame oil Cook for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Add the honey and cook for another 8-10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked and sauce becomes sticky. Cook under low heat while stirring occasionally as you do not want to burn the chicken wings.
  • Season with some salt and pepper if desired.
  • Enjoy!
Notes:
1. Fresh rosemary can also be added.
2. Cooking oil can be used instead of butter.

I made these on 8-12-20 & halved the recipe, since Hubby won't eat sticky wings.
It was very good.
I put in more butter than a 1/2 recipe needed (about 3 T) because I was scraping out my butter dish. That did affect the end result, so be sure to use the amount listed. I ended up with a lot of 'oil' on top of everything which kept the sticky sauce from clinging well.
I sauteed the garlic a bit too long, so it tended to turn really dark before the wings were done.
I used a bit more ginger, because I was using up the last piece - that was great! I didn't have pepper flakes so I sprinkled about 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper into the garlic/ginger mix before I added the wings. Next time I'll add a bit more.
I also added thin carrot sticks at the last 5 min. or so and really liked them.
The next time I'll cut back on the sesame oil (or buy some new oil; mine might just be too old).
I'll also make sticky rice and after I take out the wings (and pour off any excess oil) I'll stir the rice all up in the pan with whatever sauce is left - this time I had salad and felt like I was wasting something! :)
I will be making these again!
