puto pizza

Puto or Filipino Muffins with a twist of Pizza. This Puto Pizza has been trending lately so my niece and I thought of making one using mySpecial Puto Cupcakes as a base.  This puto batter is so soft and fluffy which is perfect for this Puto Pizza.  Easy to make and delicious! A great snack kids and adults will love!

puto pizza recipe

 Ingredients:

• 4 egg whites
• 1/4 cup sugar + 1/2 cup
• 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
• 1 1/2 cups cake flour, sifted
• 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 3/4  cup water

Topping Ingredients:

• ​Pizza sauce
• Cheese (grated and cubed)
• Bell pepper, sliced or cubed
• Ham, cubed
• Pineapple tidbits

Procedure:

• Beat the egg whites and cream of tartar. Beat until it foams up.
• Gradually add sugar (1/4 cup) and beat until stiff. 
• In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar (1/2 cup), baking powder and water. 
• Carefully fold-in the egg white mixture to the flour mixture. ( "Folding" is a more gentle mixing technique than "stirring" and "mixing". Carefully cut through the mixture with the edge of a rubber spatula, working in a gentle figure of eight and moving the bowl as you go.)​

• Prepare  individual cupcake or muffins pans or puto molds and line with cupcake liners. 
• Fill 1/2 of the mold with puto batter. Add ham, cheese and pineapple then fill with puto batter again up to 2/3 full. Add  a small amount of pizza sauce, ham, cheese, pineapple and bell pepper.
• Place a cheesecloth in the steamer lid to avoid water drips. 
• Steam for 10-12 minutes. Do not over steam. 
• Muffin is ready when toothpick inserted comes out clean.
• Serve and enjoy.
