panna cotta

As I write this blog, I am here in Italy visiting my daughter. Since I am here and have some spare time, I thought of making an Italian dessert called Panna Cotta which is made from sweetened cooked cream thickened with gelatin and molded. You can flavor it with coffee, vanilla or lemon or you can leave it plain and top it with your favorite fruits. I once made this (here's my recipe ) but it's a plain Panna Cotta and I find it too plain. For this recipe, I added sour cream which makes it creamier and complements the fruits topping.

Procedure:
  1. In a sauce pan, combine milk and gelatin. Stir and  let stand  for 3-5 min or until gelatin is softened.
  2. Place pan over medium to low heat and stir until gelatin is dissolved and mixture is steaming (not boiling) for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add  heavy whipping cream, sugar,  vanilla and salt. Continue stirring until sugar is fully dissolved and mixture is steaming (not boiling), for about 5-8 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool  for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Whisk sour cream in a medium bowl.
  5. Gradually add the warm cream. Whisk until mixture is completely smooth, divide it into containers or dessert cups or molds.
  6. Refrigerate until fully set;  about 3 to 5 hours.
  7. Top with your favorite fruit or jam.
  8. Enjoy.

Pwede rin sub ng all-purpose cream. Mas masarap lang at malasa pag whipping cream ang gamit.
