There are so many variations on how to make Puto or Filipino Muffins. It is traditionally made using grind glutinous rice (giniling na bigas or galapong) and coconut milk.

Making puto has evolved and has now many ways on how to make it like...these two Puto recipes Special Puto Cheese and Puto with Cheese and are great as well.

However, this recipe is another version using self rising flour instead of rice flour or cake flour. This homemade Filipino Puto or Muffins are so soft and fluffy. It is very simple and easy to make.

Adding cheese is a must when making this recipe. The more cheese you add, the better. I tried adding them in different ways and I will let me tell you the difference.
1. Add sliced or grated cheese in the middle of steaming time.
2. Add two sliced cheese before steaming and it will create the image below.  (highly recommended)
3. Add grated cheese before steaming but will create many holes on top of the muffins.

Hello, what type of cheese do you use? I’m also in CA and not sure what kind of cheese to buy at the regular grocery store for this recipe. Thank you!
