When you say Braised Beef,  I will think of Chowking. One of the famous Chinese Restaurants in the Philippines where I used to work as a supervisor more than a decade ago. Our number one best selling? Value#1 which is Braised Beef served in a bowl.  At that time I believe it only costs less than 50.00 pesos to buy this delicious dish that comes with a small drink.  I am not sure if they still sell this but I really miss eating this so I thought of making one. And this recipe really taste like one.

This recipe is so easy to make. But of course cooking time took a little longer because we have to simmer the meat until it is fork tender. But once the meat is ready, it is actually quick and simple. For the ingredients, prepare garlic, onion, soy sauce, brown sugar, carrots, beef loin or beef chuck, star anise, bay leaves, water and cornstarch. Please make sure to use a good brand of soy sauce. Some soy sauce are too salty. I  suggest to  use Kikkoman Soy Sauce which I used on this recipe.
