If you have been looking for a cake that is super moist and delicious cake from scratch, well this is it! With creamy frosting that you can drizzle on top of the chocolate cake is divine. Perfect for chocolate lovers out there! Found this recipe from Hershey's and I just tweaked the cake a little bit and made the frosting recipe shared by my niece.
For this recipe, I made 2loaf pans of chocolate cakes. You can also use this recipe if you would like to make Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting. Less time in the oven and can yield 24 pieces. You can also use the other loaf pan to make Choco Butternut Cake.

Hi! The cake looks yummmmy! May I know the calculation recipe in grams? Plsssss
I don't have one right now. I suggest to google the conversion please. Thanks!
Can I bake it a day in advance?
Been tried and tested!!! 😀 so good!!! Thank you for this recipe.
I am glad. You're welcome. Thanks for leaving a comment here :)
Thank you for this recipe. Tried and tested it's so delicious yummy 😋😋😋.
Would it be okay to reduce sugar on both cake & frosting? Thank you.
Yes
Hi. Cake was superb but my frosting turned out to a bit thin and flowy. Can u tell me how can i thicken it more?
It shouldn't be that flowy. I hope you have watched the video and saw the consistency. You need to give more time to make it more thicker or add more cornstarch if you like.
I had the same problem. Cooked on low heat for a long time and it never thickened. Even tried higher heat but didn’t help. Ended up just adding powdered sugar until it was a good consistency for me.
I am not sure what happened but it didn't happen to many of the ones who tried it as you can see in the comments here.
Nice! I am glad you liked it. Thanks for dropping a comment here. :)
This looks great! Can I make it in a Bundt pan? If so, would the cooking time increase?
Yes you can use a Bundt pan and yes it is thicker and taller so you might want to add extra baking time.
Omg!!! This looks amazing! I wanted to halve the recipe but don’t know how to reduce the flour and sugar?!
The technique I can share with you is just to remember that 1/4 cup is equal to 4 tbsp. That way it will be easier for you to halve the recipe. I hope this helps.
Dear Janette,
I tried your recipie for our son's birthday in January and everyone loved it! The cake came out super moist and the chocolate ganache was simply divine. Thank you for sharing your recipe. All the best to you.
Kind regards,
Mai
Hello Mai,
I am glad that you guys enjoyed it. Thanks for dropping a comment here. Take care.
Cake requires refrigeration and does have expiration. This recipe doesn't have other ingredients like commercial ones use for it to stay longer. I always suggest to consume up to 3 days If a homemade cake stays longer in the fridge of course it will lose it's moisture. You can always thaw the cake before eating.
Hi, look delicious, could you please give the measurements in grams
I only have 8 inch pans will that work?
Yes, you can make two 8" pans.
Hi Janette! What is the size of your loaf pans? Thank you
Hi. It's a 9.5" x 5.5"
Hi, can I please check how long I can keep the frosting for? Tyia!
Hi. I haven't tried storing them as I always frost the cake with it and consume.
I wanted to know if I can do one layer. How would that work?
Just cut the recipe in half and make one 8" round cake.
How much time do i need to bake if i'll use a round pan 9"?
You can use two 8" or 9" round pans and bake around the same time with the loaf pans. Check with a toothpick if it comes out clean.
Recipe looks yum! What can I replace evaporated milk with as its not available on India?
Fresh milk is fine just take note that evaporated milk has half less water than fresh milk. Meaning it is a little thicker than fresh milk.
Hello! I’d like to make this as one single cake, not two layers. Any recommendations on oven time? ( I always fail cakes on the cooking times!!)
This cake wasn't baked in two layers. I made two loaf pans here. You can cut the recipe in half if you'd like.
Hello. Can i skip cocoa powder to make vanilla cake by following the same recipe?
I don't think so. I have vanilla cupcakes recipe. Here's the link https://www.pinoycookingrecipes.com/recipe/vanilla-cupcakes
Hi can I use evaporated milk instead of whole milk for the cake? If so, would the measurement be the same?
If using evap, dilute with water. Evap has half less water than fresh milk.
Hey! So is there a way to sweetened the frosting mines seem a tad bit bitter?!
It is probably the brand of cocoa powder you use.
How to bake the same batter on a stove top? And will it be moist?
I haven't tried so I really don't know.
Hi! I'd love to try your recipe. I just want to ask about which brand are you using for your cocoa powder? Please. Thanks! Love your post <3
Hi, I used Hershey's Cocoa powder. Thanks :)
Can i use evap instead of fresh milk. Thanks
Evap milk has half less water than fresh milk. I suggest to dilute with half more water.
Hi its nice i bake today for dessert my boss its 1st day of ramadan..can i use fresh milk..😂
Fresh milk is one of the ingredients for cake batter. If you meant for the frosting, yes but you need to adjust. Evaporated milk has half less water than fresh milk.
Hi
Can we use condensed milk in place of evaporated milk and not add sugar because cm is sweetened ?
I don't think it's a good idea to sub condensed milk with evap. Their consistencies are totally different.
i wd love to tryout this cake. but i am not aware of measuring using cups. can you plz send me measurements in grams .
Sorry, I do not have measurements in grams. Please use google to convert.
I have tried using two 8" pan before. With 10", you might have extra. Make some cupcakes and bake for about 20-25 minutes.
Condensed milk is much thicker than evaporated milk and I suggest not to sub it.
Hi!
I made this cake for one of my son's teacher. She is a huge chocolate fan! This is the perfect cake for her. Thought it would be nice to show her our appreciation during this unprecedented time to say "Thank you" for all her hard work.
Thank you so much for this amazing recipe.
You guys are so nice. I am glad you tried this recipe. It's my pleasure sharing my recipe to all. Thanks for taking the time to comment here. Take care.
Hi!
Can I use brown sugar and coconut oil for the batter?
I haven't tried. I suggest not to substitute.
Hi,
If I want to make just 1 pan, do I halve the recipe? Also, if I don’t have an electric mixer, would it work okay if I mixed it by hand?
Thanks 😊
Yes, just halve the recipe and yes for wire whisk.
Hello, what is the brand of the whole milk you used?
I use Lactaid here in California.
hello pwede po ba isteam?
I haven't tried steaming it so I am not sure what will happen to the texture.
I tried steaming it and its so delicious! It’s also super moist..it gets better and better after 3 days in the ref..❤️
Glad to know that steaming works too. May I ask how long you steamed it? How was the texture?
Can i use springform pan?
Batter is too liquid and might leak? I am not sure.
I must have done something wrong I did the frosting cooked on low heat as it said and i cooked it for 1 hour and it did not thicken so that was frustrating. Other then that cake was good frosting 👎🏽
Maybe you forgot the flour?
It's my first time to bake a chocolate cake and I'm glad I choose your recipe. The cake is moist and the frosting is just like I wanted--bittersweet.😊
My family loves it!!!!
Awesome! I am glad you chose this recipe and that your family enjoyed. Thanks for the comment.
Oh my... I haven't even finished putting this together and my family is going crazy over it. I had cut off the crown of the cake and we ate that, dipped in frosting. Needless to say everyone wants to know when it'll be ready. I used Special Dark cocoa powder and it think it just amped it up. I did have to add a tsp of cornstarch to the frosting to get it to thicken, or maybe it was my impatience. But it came out great. Thank for such a delicious recipe. This is a keeper.
My pleasure. That's awesome! I am glad you guys loved it :)
I would like to try this recipe and make a jelly roll cake, would that be possible with this recipe?
Yes you can but time will probably be shorter since it will be thinner. If you plan to roll it, am just not sure if this is the right recipe for that one. I plan to make chocolate cake roll. Hopefully soon.
Hi! What's the substitute for Whole milk? Can I use Fresh milk instead?
Yes, they are actually the same.
I really love your recipe. Used this recipe for my chocolate dreamcake and it was a hit. Thank you! ❤️❤️
Thanks. I am glad everyone liked it. It's my pleasure sharing my recipe to all. Take care.
Ma'am I can't search your page on FB. What happened? 😭😭
Hi, I am having it fixed and hopefully it will come back. Right now, all I can do is wait. Good thing I have all of the videos posted in my youtube channel as well. I hope you will support my Channel like how you supported my FB. Thanks. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated as well so I can regain access to my page.
Can i use one round 9" pan? Will it over flow?
It will. Use two 8" round pans.
Thank you :) how about one 9.5" x 2.5" springform pan? Still 35 mins in the oven?
Yes, make sure to check before the set time as oven temp varies.
Thank you Janette.. sooo love it.. super rich chocolate flavor. Used 9.5" springform pan turns out perfect!! Truly appreciate it♥️♥️
Awesome! :)
I’ve been looking for a good recipe with frosting for chocolate cake. I’ve also tried so many others, to get to the best chocolate cake recipe. This is by far the best recipe and frosting so far. I’ve baked it trice already in 2 weeks.. thank you so much for putting together this recipe for us.
It's my pleasure. I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for dropping a comment here. Take care.
i made this today it turned out really delicious. thanks for sharing the recipe.
I am glad. You're welcome :)
Hi Janette,
It's my second time to use this recipe as this is amazing! My family loves it. Thanks so much for sharing. Please don't stop sharing recipes. It helps a lot especially to beginners like me. ☺️
One thing that I love to also learn is on how I can design my frosting. This is really challenging even if I have few tools for this. I hope that you can share a video on how you do it on one of your cake creations. Btw, my daughter loves the cake you made with the Minnie mouse design! 😍 She kept on asking me to do one for her. 😅
Thanks, again.
Mila
Hi Mila,
I am glad that you love this recipe. The Minnie Mouse...made from fondant on instagram right? It took awhile to do it. You will need the right tools to make it. When I get a chance I will make a video on fondant decorations and icing a cake :)
Yay, looking forward to that! 😊 Btw, did you use a certain brand of fondant or was it homemade? I've been searching for affordable ones with good reviews but cannot find any yet.
I have been using Wilton Brand.
Can I use melted butter instead of vegetable oil?
I haven't tried but I don't think it will be a big deal if you sub butter for vegetable oil.
Hello, Can you bake this in a glass pan? Thanks
Yes but glass pan heats up more than a regular pan so you may need to watch the baking time.
Hi Janette!
I was wondering, could I use non-dairy milk, like oatmilk instead of whole milk?
I have used the Lactose free 2% before.
What size loaf pan did you use?
It's a 9 1/2 x 5 1/2.
I've been looking for a recipe like this for a while. This looks yummy. What is the baking time for a loaf pan?
Please see procedure. Information is there. Thanks.
Hi Janette,
Any cocoa powede recommendation aside from using hersheys
Hi. I haven't tried other brands.
I have found after making this recipe many times, there are two kinds of people in the world. Those that ask you for the recipe and those that ask if you’d make one just for them. :)
It means they love what you made for them and they want more ha ha!
Yes, no fail recipe. :)
Can you replace all purpose flour with self raising flour? Thank you
I haven't tried but all I know is that self-raising flour comes with baking powder and salt already.
Can I replace all-purpose flour with self raising flour? Thanks
Hi. I suggest to use plain flour. Thanks.
Hi, Can I use 8x10 rectangular baking pan for this recipe? Thanks :)
I have used 6 and 8 inches round pan before and yes you can use 8x10 as well.
Thank you :) By the way I tried your butter mochi and its soooo yummmy :D thank you!
You're welcome. Glad to know you tried my Butter Mochi recipe as well :)
Thank you for sharing your recipe :) God bless you...
Can I used circle pan if yes then what size do I need
I've tried two 8-inch round pans for this recipe.
I haven't tried but if I will estimate you will make about 15 or more. If you use that baking time will be a bit shorter as llanera or smaller and cake batter is thinner.
What can I substitute for egg?
I haven't tried substituting this recipe with anything yet. Sorry.
Hello Ms. Janette! I am from ZC, Philippines. Reading the comments makes me feel more excited to try this. I just bought the ingredients but I am still busy. I will update here if I've already tried it.
Thank you for sharing this simple recipe yet looks so yummy!
Hi Ms. Marie. That's great! Please keep me posted. :)
Finally, I was able to make it and the result was so good. So yummy. My husband loved it! 🙂
Then my mother requested to make her a cake on her birthday but not choco.
She loves ube cake.
Hope I can find an ube cake recipe in your website.
Thank you so much Ms. Janette for the recipe you shared.
I's my pleasure. So glad to know it came out successful. Yes I do have ube cake roll. You can bake it using round or loaf pan sa well. Here's the link. https://www.pinoycookingrecipes.com/recipe/ube-cake-roll
This cake looks so good! If I wanted to make this cake into cupcakes how long would I bake them for?
Thanks Kristen. Yes you can. Bake for about 20 minutes.
Yes you can.
Hi Janette…can I use fresh milk instead of evaporated milk.
Look forward to your reply. Thanks very much.
Kind regards
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, I apologize for the late response. Evaporated milk has half less water than fresh milk so it might have a slight effect on the consistency unless you make some adjustments.
Please the recipe in grams?
the cake looks good and i would make it in 9 x 13 pan and put peanut butter frosting on it or just a chocolate frosting but using the stove.
Thanks! Yes, that's another option you can make. Enjoy!
Thanx a lot for sharing all your recipes. This one is another must try. Godbless always and keep safe po
Always my pleasure. Enjoy!
Hi
For your Super Moist Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Frosting, for the frosting, can I use fresh milk instead of evaporated milk? Look forward to your reply. Thanks very much.
Kind regards
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, Evaporated milk has half less water than fresh milk so if you will use fresh milk I suggest to lessen the quantity
Easy recipe and followed exact instructions, however the frosting is extremely runny.
